The public housing unit before Stéphan Barron & Sylvia Hansmann action |
In 1996, Stephan Barron and Sylvia Hansmann decide to plant a border in front of their public housing unit with sunflowers, flax, wheat, rosebushes, rape, etc.
Neighbours living on the street are then invited to a "sunflower festival". They are supported in their endeavours by local people and politicians.
Despite opposition from housing authorities, they repeat the experience in 1997.

The project encourages citizens to reappropriate public space in a sector of Old Lille that is plagued by prostitution and illicit activity.
SB & SH propose a new organisation of the street to give it back to people.
